Just want to add to these comments that Greg Sargent at TNR is also a maximalist on this stuff! This piece was also good and worth reading and sharing!
The author believes there are still tools enough to save us. I earnestly hope that’s true. And I hope there are smart, selfless, courageous people positioned and willing to wield those tools. As “an insider,” the author is privy to opportunities and levers that are difficult to see from my vantage point in the great, broken State of Tennessee. But even here, with our fresh wound, many of us aren’t giving up — otherwise the unspeakable second option becomes inevitable.
Thank you for the thought-provoking essay! From your keyboard to Dems’ ears!
Thanks for reading. No doubt, things are very much harder in TN than maybe VA. That said, you all have some of THE most inspiring people in the party down there, making good trouble. It may take longer to right the ship in the Vol state. I know that's no comfort because stuff is F'd right now.
Ethnicity and ancestors, faith, religion and belief, race and skin tone. The struggle before us in the U.S., so eloquently and succinctly described in the above post, would be somewhat easier if humanity found a way to view the list of nearly meaningless identifiers above as "fun" things to read about, look at, or with which to partake.
Instead of, you know, the deadly seriousness so many on earth attach to such silliness. Billions are so easily manipulated by greedy sociopaths, as a direct result of the murderous seriousness the masses apply to these silly identifiers.
It's a great question and kind of like the Supreme Court on what is obscene — I'll know it when I see it. But seriously it is hard to pinpoint. Likely when people can't think of tools left or at least struggle to.

"Those who make peaceful revolution impossible will make violent revolution inevitable."

Yes—things are F’d right now!! But you are correct, we have some amazing people doing the work and making necessary trouble!
Keep up your good work, here!
Also—if you haven’t heard of Michaela Barnett who is running for the seat Tim Burchett currently holds, she’s worth looking up!
She’s a bit more active on Instagram than here, but she’s the real deal. Bringing a bit of hope to east TN.

Everyone needs to grapple with this. We may not all come to exactly the same conclusion, but these are the right questions.
Great point in here is the question of door number two:
Ethnicity and ancestors, faith, religion and belief, race and skin tone. The struggle before us in the U.S., so eloquently and succinctly described in the above post, would be somewhat easier if humanity found a way to view the list of nearly meaningless identifiers above as "fun" things to read about, look at, or with which to partake.

You're assuming it's not too late to use the "tools" to save the country. At what point would you feel it is too late?
It's a great question and kind of like the Supreme Court on what is obscene — I'll know it when I see it. But seriously it is hard to pinpoint. Likely when people can't think of tools left or at least struggle to.
